Our studio

A workshop
for better places.

We are a practice of architects, designers, and builders based in Athens, Georgia. Our work brings together a clear design idea, a practical understanding of building, and care for the people who will use it.

The Basic-Workshop team
Founded in Athens / 2021

Rooted in place.
Open to possibility.

Basic-Workshop grew from JD Gutermuth’s interest in making thoughtful architecture a more connected, personal experience. Today, design and building expertise sit within the same practice, with room to work across scales and disciplines.

We are drawn to useful spaces, honest materials, daylight, and the moments where old and new meet. We want the work to feel distinct because it belongs to you and to its place.

The people behind the work
